Jan Deelstra, Author Blessings In The Mire
Extended Bio
Jan Deelstra worked for ten years at The Department of Human Services in Salt Lake City, Utah, in a client advocacy capacity,
working to protect the rights and lives of children, counseling abused women and adolescent parents, co-facilitating Gestalt training
groups, and all the while raising community awareness of social issues.

By way of burnout, the trying position led her to open
Ruby Luna’s Angel Emporium, a small holistic gift store. There, Ms. Deelstra
enjoyed the fruits of her labors until 1997, when, following the death of her son, she made the decision to follow her heart to
southern California.

A true “Renaissance Woman,” Deelstra has worked as a massage therapist, a licensed Teamster truck driver, a bartender, a
telephone repairperson, a counselor to the impoverished, an interior decorator specializing in the flow of energy, and as a licensed
California Realtor. Although writing is her true passion, she also draws, is an avid reader, and is an unrelenting activist for bettering
“humanistic conditions.”

Blessings In The Mire, her first non-fiction work, is about finding the miracles in even the most nefarious places.
